J&K Police Issues Important Advisory For Citizens Over Red Fort Incident

Shopian, Nov 12: The Shopian Police on Tuesday issued a public advisory cautioning residents against sharing or engaging with insensitive or provocative social media posts related to the recent tragic incident at the Red Fort.

According to police officials, it has come to their notice that certain social media users have made or reacted to posts in a manner described as “deeply insensitive and anti-national.” The statement stressed that such online behaviour not only disrespects the tragedy but also poses a threat to communal peace and public order.

The police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found spreading hate, misinformation, or divisive content on social media platforms. Law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring digital spaces to identify and act against those attempting to exploit the incident for malicious purposes.

“Citizens are advised not to post, share, or promote any content that mocks the tragedy or creates communal tension,” the advisory said. “Even reacting or commenting on such posts in a provocative manner may attract legal consequences under relevant laws.”

Authorities have also urged people to remain alert to suspicious or fake accounts, particularly those suspected to be operated from across the border, which may attempt to manipulate emotions and disrupt peace in the region.

The Shopian Police appealed to the public to exercise restraint, maintain sensitivity, and act responsibly while using social media. “We all have a collective responsibility to ensure that our online spaces remain respectful and free of hatred,” the statement concluded.

The advisory comes amid growing concern over the misuse of social media platforms following sensitive national incidents. Police have reiterated that spreading rumours or insensitive content online can invite serious legal action under the IT Act and other relevant laws
